Feature Wall - “Somethin’ Fishy”

Posted by Douglas Arts on Wednesday, June 21, 2023

In between DAB's exhibitions we will be featuring the artwork of an individual artist, artists or an art group on the back Feature Wall in DAB's gallery.

"Somethin' Fishy" is now on display on the Feature Wall until Sunday 23 July.  This collection of artwork is a collaboration between Colin Price, Inger Rowe and Mandy Ryan.  It's a mix of quirky, unique and cleverly created fish-related artworks in a variety of mediums - pottery, mosaics, paintings (both watercolour & acrylics), printmaking with linocuts, mixed media and felting.

Pop into the gallery to have a look.

About The Artists

Colin Price lives in Mossman and joined DAB in 2016 when he enrolled for a Botanical Painting course.  He had never painted botanicals before, but had always admired it.  Colin is now an experienced botanical artist and has exhibited with the recent “Artistic Endeavour” exhibition organised by the Botanical Artists’ Society of Queensland.

Inger Rowe lives in Craiglie, Port Douglas and joined DAB in 2007.  Inger has participated in many DAB workshops and courses where she has gained valuable skills and knowledge in various art forms.  Consequently, Inger now works in a variety of mediums including painting (both watercolour & acrylics), botanical painting, printmaking, pottery & glass work.

Mandy Ryan lives in Mowbray, Port Douglas and joined DAB in 2015.  Mandy works in pottery, mosaics, glass work and felting and often combines several mediums into one artwork.

About The Theme

Fish are a fun, interesting and t(r)opical subject matter.  Whether you like to watch them, catch them or eat them – they are entertaining, exciting and tasty!

The idea for the “Somethin’ Fishy” wall came about late last year.  Colin was painting some amazing fish and sea creatures and Mandy created her first pottery fish wall plaques.  The idea grew, so with Inger’s printmaking and painting skills, it was quickly agreed that the trio would work on a collection of “fishy” works for the Feature Wall.
