Congratulations to Sue Berthelsen!
Winner of the 2018 Peter Culley Award
The Peter Culley Award is given in
recognition of improvement in art practice. At the opening of the End
Of Year Exhibition, President, Andrea Falstein, said -
"Sue has experimented with pencil, ink,
pastels, acrylics, watercolour, clay and glass. She once remarked that
her aim in art was to capture the feeling or emotion of the subject.
And she constantly manages to do that, as can be seen in some of her
work on display tonight. If you look at her pencil drawing of her
daughter, she has captured the very essence of that smile. Her
watercolours are light and ‘in-the-moment’ and the Cockatoo in glass on
the front display stand, has captured the attitude of those noisy, crazy
birds precisely. Since DAB has had a glass fusing and slumping kiln,
Sue has researched, experimented with, and come to understand glass to
the stage where she is now one of DAB’s glass tutors. We are very
pleased to have her as part of DAB and congratulate her on the award
tonight."
